Cublington Cottage
[Restoration Project]
The project at Cublington began for us when we were called in by the pricipal contractors as specialists to help assess and repair the grade II listed building.
Unfortunately, at some point in its history some (no doubt well meaning) builder had covered the timber frame and its brick nogging panels in cement render which in due course had trapped water in the walls and caused the frame to rot. Both sides of the building were in poor condition. As the principal contractors had been going through their renovation of the property, they had removed some render and uncovered the decaying structure hidden within. After we’d assessed the frame and taken a detailed survey we worked with the architect managing the build to agree a schedule of repairs. We decided to start with the west elevation as it was in the worst condition and after carefully propping the building we proceeded to carefully remove the wall from the sole plate right up to the wallplate.
The timbers that were salvageable were labeled and removed to our workshop for repair and then reframed with new air dried oak to fill the gaps. Once the west elevation was reinstated complete with new lime rendered panels and leaded pentice boards we moved on to the west elevation and began the process again. To complete the job, we also then proceeded to make and fit some bespoke heritage style plant on windows to the property. The principal contractors then took back over to bring the project to completion.
